Chris is a builder as well as a furniture maker, and the two go together. The portfolio shows staircases with turned balusters, a carved mantel and French doors, bathrooms taken from the studs to tiled showers and vanities, floors laid and refinished, porch railings and decks, shutters remade for a brick colonial, and additions framed from the foundation up.
Oakdale and the neighbouring south-shore villages are full of older houses that deserve better than a stock renovation. Chris works on them the way the original builders did: solid materials, proper detailing, and respect for what is there. Where the job needs a plumber, electrician or mason, he brings in trades he has worked with for years, and does the masonry himself when it is a brick oven or a garden wall.
Projects range from a single mantel to a whole-house restoration. Every one gets the same eye.
Questions
Before you ask
- Do you handle the other trades?
- Chris brings in plumbers, electricians and masons he has worked with for years, or coordinates with your own contractor, and does the finish carpentry, cabinetry and much of the masonry himself.
- Do you take on whole-house renovations?
- Yes, for the right house. Most of the work is finish carpentry and cabinetry, but Chris has run additions and full restorations from the foundation up.
- How far will you travel for renovation work?
- Renovation work is mainly within Suffolk County; cabinetry, millwork and furniture travel anywhere on Long Island, to New York City and to Connecticut.
